Edelveiss is a band formed in Montreal in 2005. After releasing a first EP, Éponyme, under D7I Records in 2007, the band went on hiatus to rethink their direction. It was at this point that Martin Ferguson transformed the project into something more personal. The rise and fall of Edel Veiss was conceived over a period of several years and released in 2012, with the collaboration of founding members as well as new musicians. Since 2015, Edelveiss has been working on new compositions and will release a series of new EPs starting in July 2018.  They have just released their new EP "Skull".

New singles "Surfing On A Sinewave" and "Acknowledgements” by Jane's Party

Unnamed %283%29

Formed in 2008, Toronto-based pop-rock quartet Jane's Party - comprised of Devon Richardson, Tom Ionescu, Jeff Giles, and Zach Sutton - are fresh off Tunnel Visions, their third full-length album and most successful release to date. Lead single “Coming on Strong” garnered multiple accolades (including being named a top-100 single of 2016 by CBC), a number of the album’s other tracks appeared in film and TV, and, together with acoustic companion Tunnel reVisions, the record has earned over three million streams on Spotify. Their recent self-produced release - an acclaimed cover of July Talk's “Guns + Ammunition” - saw the band in its most creative element, taking on the roles of director, producer, and editor in creating the video for the song.

Jane’s Party has carried that momentum into their latest project, which represents a thematic and conceptual departure, if not necessarily an aesthetic one. Featuring collaborations with Skratch Bastid, Fast Romantics, and The Darcys, the new album sees the band exploring more mature and sometimes darker subject matter. Whether they’re touching on superficial relationships, politics, the pervasiveness of technology, or the intractability of human nature, the songs often hide dystopian undertones beneath deceptively breezy riffs and vocal harmonies.

For over a decade, Jane’s party has brought their irreverent, genre-bending sound to live audiences around the world; in buzzing clubs and famed concert halls in downtown Toronto, in stadiums across Canada, and in historic venues throughout Europe, opening for and playing alongside artists like Lowest of The Low, The Sadies, Sam Roberts Band, The Arkells, Tom Odell, Blue Rodeo, Stars, LIGHTS, and Lord Huron. As they gear up to play festivals like Alianait Art (Iqaluit), Liquid Arts (Hamilton), Northern Lights Boreal (Sudbury), and NXNE (Toronto), with a cross-Canada tour to follow, 2018 will see them continue to expand their reach, as they showcase their new collection of material with the soulful, energetic live shows that have become their hallmark.

"When writing new material, we always aim to push the boundaries of what we have previously done as a band and explore new aspects of our musical relationship. This is reflected in “Acknowledgements” by the conscious decision to not have drums on the song. We knew that such a fundamental decision would force us all to get out of our old habits and comfort zones – “shuffle the deck” in a way. With David Spekter's work on the vocal harmony arrangement, “Acknowledgements” ebbs and flows beautifully, with the lyrics always at the forefront.

Coming up in music as jazz students, we’ve always played and listened to instrumental music yet have somehow never made any of our own. The concept was a 60’s style approach to recording “Surfing on a Sinewave” – a one-day studio session with all four of us jamming together in a single room. Who better to inspire us and guide us through the process than Leland Whitty of Badbadnotgood? His production work in the studio and throughout the mixing process made for an incredible learning experience."

June 29 – July 3rd @ Alianait Arts Festival, Iqaluit, NU

July 6 – 7 @ Northern Lights Festival, Sudbury, ON

July 26 – 28 @ Beaches International Jazz Festival, Toronto, ON

New single "Open Road" by Colour Film

2018-07-04 05:57:57 UTC

Unnamed %284%29

Matthew de Zoete  is  a musician from Hamilton, ON, who plays under the name Colour Film. THe just I launched his new single ‘Open Road’ featuring Caroline Brooks of the Good Lovelies.

"Since 2006, I have released four albums and toured throughout North America and Europe, sharing the stage with acts such as Serena Ryder, Great Lake Swimmers, and Whitehorse and performing at festivals including North by Northeast, Canadian Music Week, JUNOfest, and Stukafest (Netherlands).

The song was inspired by a bike ride I took with my wife and two young daughters in the countryside one evening. At one point, they were up ahead of me a little way and I caught a glimpse of them biking with a stretch of open trail curving off into the distance in front of them. I was struck by the idea of a person you love being an open road - taking you places inside yourself, opening possibilities, and shaping your path into the future. This thought and the mental snapshot of my family stuck with me, so I wrote the song the next day. The rhythm and melody remind me of biking with them, and we shot the video on the same stretch of trail where the song was inspired."

“Open Road” was produced by Les Cooper and recorded in Toronto.

Lora's newest single of her album is "Good Men Don't Hurt You". This single reflects friendly advice in love. As a victim of sexual trauma, Lora is vocal about her support towards other women, as well as the #MeToo campaign. Her work as an artist is to reach out to those who feel alone and those who have been victims themselves. This inspired her to be vocal about her own experience and also led to the single. The song is a playful and poignant ditty with a nod to the current cultural landscape of the #MeToo movement. It tracks the story of a young girl and her dialogue with the song's narrator in what seems like a playful manner, but still revealing honest truths.

Lora Kelley released her new album, self-titled "Lora Kelley", on June 16th exclusively with CD Baby. The album showcases her songwriting ability, with each track being more personal than ever. Lora continually pulls from her life experiences, blending the memories with a rock/country flare. Currently residing in Charlottesville, VA, Lora grew up on the wide open plains of Texas, and was raised on 10,000 Maniacs, Tracy Chapman, Bonnie Raitt, Patty Griffin, Joni Mitchell, The Carpenters, and more contemporary influences - Patty Griffin, Brandi Carlile, Margo Price, Secret Sisters & John Paul White. As a wife and a mother of two small children, she enters the music scene with a gently produced record reflecting her southern roots and experiences as a woman. It deals, playfully and somberly, with both grit and grief and how we synthesize our corporate human experience.

"When Your Brain Lies To You" by Dario Margeli

Artworks 000364235862 8qt9a8 original

Dario is a naturalized US Citizen from California. However, his parents were foreigners. He took music lessons in the 80’s, but eventually decided that what he loved most was songwriting, which he learned from carefully studying the structure of songs by Chic and Brass Construction (70’s funk band). In 1990 he recorded some demos inspired by vocal deep house music by Fingers inc (Larry Heard). He then had to attend college and work and left music behind. In 2008 he participated as a liner notes writer on a pair of CD’s released by NowAgain / Stones Throw Records, due to him having a specialized website on rare 45rpms. This inspired him to get back into music and in 2011 having relocated to Europe he released his first single. He has had minor success in Italy where he was featured in a campaign by clothing firm Sisley (Benetton) and in an article on Vice magazine, as well as on a radio program on Italy’s main radio and TV network RAI. His recordings all feature amazing session guitar players, including Hugh Williams from Florida and Philip Ockelford from near Cambridge (U.K). In 2013 Dario started studying Buddhist meditation and decided that his songs would be based on the well-being concepts that he is learning. By creating songs from them, he is sure not to forget some essential lessons.

"When Your Brain Lies To You" is a song with futuristic electronic arpeggios, Moog synthesizers, and Lynn drum programming. It has a speed of 118 BPM and is danceable. The song has a strong clear memorable chorus. Analog polysynths were used, such as Korg Polysix and Juno 60. Arturia Minimoog was used for some parts.

The lyrics of the song have self-improvement themes. The lyrics motivate the listener to question negative thoughts. When we have negative emotions, they may not represent reality. We can stay neutral and see that some of our demons are our brain's creation.

Review for the new EP "I Wanna Be Exploited" by Tommy Red

A combination of retro aesthetics, enduring lyrics and alt-rock grit. The best music happens when artists refuse to remain stuck in their own comfort zones and creative boxes. Whenever this happens, they are free to give full range to their vision, and they can really come up with something that’s groundbreaking and personable. This is certainly the case here with Tommy Red and his brand new EP release, “I Wanna Be Exploited.”
