New track - Make It On Your Own by Of Gentlemen & Cowards

2016-10-22 00:58:28 UTC

Gentle

"Of Gentlemen & Cowards" formed in 2010. As a band they 've seen ups and downs, including an appearance on Late Night With David Letterman and an ill-fated cruise ship gig that both broke their collective heart and yet transformed our sound into a more soulful one. Through it all, as Of Gentlemen & Cowards they 've persevered their optimistic outlook.

'Make It On Your Own' started as a song about coming home after being away, and seeing your city and your life from the outside as you hadn't seen before. "Of Gentlemen & Cowards"  wrote it as a reminder to themselves of all the things they love but also the things they wish to change. During the two years they spent writing and recording this record the song took on a larger meaning for them and became a mantra for their band. You are never gonna get anywhere if you're waiting for a big break, and to truly be happy you'll need to reevaluate what success means to you. The music video follows four stories where the characters set out to accomplish their goals big and small, and though the outcome may not always be life changing, the act of pursuing the goal is celebrated as accomplishment in itself.

New songs - Castles High, Mable Bright by Caspian

2016-10-22 00:45:34 UTC

Caspian

Phil Jamieson of Caspian had this to say about the new songs: "Castles High, Marble Bright" was conceived, written and recorded alongside the collection of songs that would become Dust and Disquiet, an album that sought to capture the dialogue between a newly found, furrow browed cynicism and a fractured but unbroken sense of stubbornly epic, dramatically determined optimism that we've been trying to emulate with our music for 12 years. The 60 minutes of Dust and Disquiet ended up speaking a bit to both; Castles..." speaks exclusively and entirely to the latter. We find ourselves over a year later touring behind this collection of songs still, with over 150 shows in 30 countries across 3 continents in the can. With the end finally in sight as we look to close out this 4 year chapter together, "Castles High, Marble Bright" is our North Star, our way home, and our celebration of that decision to fully embrace the above dialogue head on, all the while finding that, indeed still, hope lies within.

"127 North" is the sound of 6 guys playing in a room together on a Friday afternoon, and is in some ways the least ambitious thing we've ever committed to tape. Free from the grip of over arrangement, overdubs, click tracks, excessive chin stroking and the like, "127 North" is what a Caspian song sometimes sounds like in its infancy. It's a vulnerable moment for us to introduce people to a song that exists in this kind of limbo, somewhere between improvisation and a fully composed piece of music. It's an honest moment and all a part of the process, of course. Maybe it's time to invite people behind the curtain a little... there's some old couches, a few beers and maybe a few high fives back here waiting for you. Some days are less serious than others, and that's quite alright with us.

Caspian is about to kick off their upcoming tour with The Appleseed Cast.

New single - Bybird by Section

2016-10-21 00:19:56 UTC

Section

Section is the moniker of writer/producer Danny Belgrad, a 21-year-old studying philosophy at Yale University. He makes hazy, ethereal indie-pop laced with dreamy synths and somber melodies. He also loves 8-bit Nintendo music and is an aspiring time traveler. "I've been writing music on guitar and piano for many years, but never sought out to self-produce music," Belgrad explains. "At a certain point, I became enthralled with the idea of realizing a singular creative vision in music, something that I felt was the defining characteristic of current indie music. To that end, I began producing and mixing music in early January. Radiohead and Wilco have long been my favorite artists, but Grimes and Tame Impala are certainly the most inspiring figures to me, considering that their records are born from individuals who write, produce, and mix their own music. I'm also obsessed with Computer Magic and Porches, but they haven't conquered the world in the same way haha," he continues. "I suppose I call my project indie-rock, but I'd be lying if I said I completely understand the distinction between synth-pop/dream-pop/indie-pop/electro-pop, etc. I guess I could also be any of those also.

Review for the new EP "I Wanna Be Exploited" by Tommy Red

A combination of retro aesthetics, enduring lyrics and alt-rock grit. The best music happens when artists refuse to remain stuck in their own comfort zones and creative boxes. Whenever this happens, they are free to give full range to their vision, and they can really come up with something that’s groundbreaking and personable. This is certainly the case here with Tommy Red and his brand new EP release, “I Wanna Be Exploited.”
