The Pulltops are a Milwaukee-based power-pop trio with a singing drummer. Their music is best described as energetic album-rock meets power-pop delivered with a punk edge. The trio formed in Milwaukee in 2002 with the release of their first and more upbeat power-pop focused release, “8-Track”. Since then, they have added in classic-rock elements along with instrumental experimentation, resulting in a mix of hooks and moody rock. The band is primarily comprised of guitarist Tom Crowell and drummer/vocalist Mark Pierret. Bassist Steve Kerwin is a frequent presence when performing live.

"When I Was Young” is the straight-forward rock track on The Pulltops' new EP, “By Accident or Design”. Lyrically the songs takes a look at past mistakes filled with regret, yet also clings to a glimmer of hope for a chance to move forward. All of this is accented by a mix of powerful guitars, alternating vocal leads, and a searing guitar solo over a power-house rhythm section that move the lyrics along.

Soundtrack To Your Own Fantasy (Special Edition) by Mixtaped Monk & Cousin Silas

Mixtaped monk logo

There is music that can make you want to dance. There is music that can make you happy or emotional, and sometimes even sad. But in a very niche corner of the musical spectrum dwells a type of music that can make you visualize your own story while listening to it. “Soundtrack To Your Own Fantasy,” a split album by Indian music producer Arka Sengupta aka Mixtaped Monk and British ambient music legend Cousin Silas, is a record that falls into that very musical spectrum.

Bordering around ambient, post-rock and experimental music, the album blends ambient and cinematic music sensibilities of Cousin Silas with the experimental-minded post-rock sensibilities of Mixtaped Monk. The cinematic nature of the album, when listened to as a whole, can trigger your mind to imagine your own fantasy world and play out a story in it while the album acts as its soundtrack.

New EP Hunter Street Station Blues by Matt Paxton

2017-08-02 05:09:53 UTC

Matt Paxton recorded his new EP 'Hunter Street Station Blues' in early Spring of 2017. "I've found myself often coming back to my hometown to record when I needed a break from the west coast. Recently I decided to move home. Hamilton is where my label Other Songs Music Co is based out of as well as Threshold Recording Studios where the album was recorded. Not to mention it's homebase for a lot of friends and family. For the past while I've lived primarily on the West Coast of Canada. Yet, I've always drawn a ton of influence from the place and people I know back home. This first track 'Baby Don't Go' is largely about holding on to love and trying to make it all work. When writing these tunes (last year and up until early this spring), I was indeed hauling a heavy heart. It's kinda funny though, I'm happier than ever nowadays, which makes it weird singing the sad ones live, but I got this - sad songs are my thing."

Track List

  • Baby Don't Go - 03:34
  • Hunter Street Station Blues - 02:59
  • I Want You (All to Myself) - 04:41
  • Put it All Back Together - 02:46

Genre : folk, indie, lo-fi

Review for 52 by Orellana

Orellana is a neo-classical/post-rock collective hailing from Bristol, UK. Their new album “52”, released in late December, brought in the new year with it’s explosive and intricate sound. The project’s music transcends genre definitions in order to focus on a broad, diverse concept that is more emotional than tangible. This particular release is full of rich and diverse arrangements, but it is also a powerful exercise in minimalism, one that showcases the strength of very few notes placed in the right spots. The simplicity of the arrangement is actually one of the strongest aspects of this entire release: there’s a palpable stillness created by the long, drone notes in the background, which almost makes you feel like the world is happening in slow motion. When the chords and notes change, it feels quite monumental due to the beautiful contrast between the stillness of the background textures and the expressive sound of the guitar-based melodies.
