"The idea of "Whirl Music" was to capture a blur of past moments in one's emotional life," Jasper X, the New Jersey-based project frontman, explains. "Our memories are often blurred snapshots of multiple moments that we think of from time to time, like being a whirl of thoughts. The initial chord progression is the foundation of the song along with the driving kick drum on the downbeat. The idea was to create modest builds and colors around that foundation and what came out was a positive sonic vibe that crescendos into the instrumental outro." Singer/songwriter Jasper X has been writing and recording records for the past 15 years. He began his music career playing small clubs in NYC, bouncing around from one project to the next. It would take a while for Jasper to finally organize his musical thoughts and put a dedicated effort into a studio recording. After writing indie-rock oriented pieces, such as the 2011 release 'Cameras and Paragons', he chose to let his current influences at the time (Wilco, Elliot Smith, Ryan Adams) take him in a different direction. His latest release, 'Aegean Lanes', enters the alt-folk/singer-songwriter genre with personal, acoustic-based songs having unique chord progressions (Only Patterns, Fortunes) and pulsating rhythms (Whirl Music, Alpha Rays).

Safe to say Becoming Phill is the only southern African electro/funk/boogie producer in the game right now. He won a Namibian Music Award a few years back for some hiphop records then went straight into this kind of sound, and here’s the album – Electrum. It’s a mix of electro, funk & r&b that is doing very well on the dancefloors in Namibia right now. It features vocals from Namibian singers Shishani and Dantago, and guitar from Christian Polloni, who has worked with Papa Wemba and Youssou N’Dour.

Off the group's new album 'Moon Language', "Immediate Engagements is about getting older and recognizing the need to really focus attention on the interests or hobbies or matter most, in order to feel like we're maximizing the time we have on this Earth.
"As far as the writing of the song, we wanted to write a song that was really straightforward but also kind of chugging at the same time," Ryan Agnew explains. "I was listening to a lot of Beach House and and you will know us by the trail of dead... while we were recording it which I think is reflected in the production of the song. The riff at the end of the song is a very fun one to play and was written separately but fits well - it also has a really nice solo from Tyler. "
The trio - based out of both Brooklyn, NY and Boston, MA - is comprised of Tyler and Matt Agnew, in addition to Mat Lundin. Their 2014 EP, Dennett St, combined jangle-pop with cut-up electroacoustic beats, and reverb-drenched samples. The new album pursues a more layered, eclectic sound.

Orellana is a neo-classical/post-rock collective hailing from Bristol, UK. Their new album “52”, released in late December, brought in the new year with it’s explosive and intricate sound. The project’s music transcends genre definitions in order to focus on a broad, diverse concept that is more emotional than tangible. This particular release is full of rich and diverse arrangements, but it is also a powerful exercise in minimalism, one that showcases the strength of very few notes placed in the right spots. The simplicity of the arrangement is actually one of the strongest aspects of this entire release: there’s a palpable stillness created by the long, drone notes in the background, which almost makes you feel like the world is happening in slow motion. When the chords and notes change, it feels quite monumental due to the beautiful contrast between the stillness of the background textures and the expressive sound of the guitar-based melodies.
