“Hewing Crowns” is the first single from herharbour's sophomore release, and is the oldest song on the album. She chose it as the opening track and first release as she felt it introduced the space from which she started writing Go Gently Into the Night and that it could serve as a preface to the demons she attempted to quell in making the album.
Out on February 3, 2017 with E-Tron Records, 'Go Gently Into the Night' is about cycles. Herharbour wrote the songs at a time where death felt omnipresent. This album has been her attempt at making peace with death as a character of growing importance in her life.
Edited by Mike Dubue, the video is made up of found footage from the 1966 short film “Silent Snow, Secret Snow” by Conrad Aiken. She wrote and produced the album in Ottawa and recorded with Dave Draves at Little Bullhorn Studio.
Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Marga Lane creates authentic and heartfelt songs with an emotional rawness rarely found in music today. Upon graduating from the esteemed Berklee College of Music in Boston, native New Yorker, Lane moved to Los Angeles to further pursue a career as a professional recording artist and songwriter.
In 2015, Marga Lane began compiling what would be her most ambitious and personal project to date, a five-track story of love and loss. “I write a lot of love songs and love is synonymous with belief. I would hope my music inspires people to have a belief in the power of love. Whether it's love for yourself or love for another. You can believe that you are meant to be with a certain person or believe that you can overcome circumstances because you love yourself enough to,” confides Lane. Musically, the forthcoming EP entitled Undressed is powerful in its simplicity and an anomaly in a world dominated by overly produced music. Undressed, which was produced by fellow Berklee alumni Matt Bobb, showcases raw acoustic guitar, soulfully layered vocals and distinctive melodies.
Opening single “Thinking About You” begins with upbeat jazz guitar and features Motown inspired vocals. The song is a celebration of love in its truest form, a new relationship and the hope and bliss that accompany it. While “Forgiven” takes on a more sullen and melancholic tone, a beautiful ballad of regret featuring Lane’s stunning vocals.
Marga Lane has found success touring throughout the US including performing at fashion weeks and singing the national anthem at over 10 NBA and MLB games. She has enjoyed the support from popular recording stars and industry veterans including Lance Bass who featured her on his SiriusXM radio show “Dirty Pop”. Marga Lane is looking forward to the next chapter in her exciting musical journey.
Undressed is set for release December 2nd, 2016 worldwide.
Based out of SE London, Tweed & Hyenas produce gorgeous independent tunes steeped in folk, pop, soul, and jazz. They are currently recording their first EP with with engineer/producer Sean Woodlock (Bloc Party, La Shark, Depeche Mode). After having their song "Norðasta Horn" selected for the acclaimed NX records mixtape, the band have gone on to receive plays from BBC 6 Music as well as performing a co-headline slot alongside artist FEMME at the Pure Gold festival held in London’s South Bank Centre.
The band started out as the solo project of singer and guitarist Klæmint Hofgaard. However, discovering a mutual affinity for artists like Grizzly Bear, Captian Beefheart and Miles Davis, Tweed & Hyenas grew into a full band of collaborators with Ed Burton on the drums and Benjamin Madeley on guitar. This minimal trio tries to explore instruments at their barest, and in their live performances, willfully 'poke and break' the features of their music in order to shake and awaken their compositions.
Nuela Charles' new album The Grand Hustle is the culmination of four very transformative years. Through discovery, love, loss, and recovery she has learned to fight for what she wants. “Fever" was written out of a moment of frustration, and sometimes out of frustration we run. We run away from something, or we run to something.
The Grand Hustle, was released on November 4. After four years of experiencing and refining Nuela Charles is proud to be sharing her resurgence through this record. Though the album stories various hardships, her story is all about the comeback. Sometimes you have to fall. Hard. And then you get back up, dust yourself off and return even stronger.
Orellana is a neo-classical/post-rock collective hailing from Bristol, UK. Their new album “52”, released in late December, brought in the new year with it’s explosive and intricate sound. The project’s music transcends genre definitions in order to focus on a broad, diverse concept that is more emotional than tangible. This particular release is full of rich and diverse arrangements, but it is also a powerful exercise in minimalism, one that showcases the strength of very few notes placed in the right spots. The simplicity of the arrangement is actually one of the strongest aspects of this entire release: there’s a palpable stillness created by the long, drone notes in the background, which almost makes you feel like the world is happening in slow motion. When the chords and notes change, it feels quite monumental due to the beautiful contrast between the stillness of the background textures and the expressive sound of the guitar-based melodies.
Davenport Rex is a music project based in Detroit, Michigan. Their sound is diverse and challenging, yet accessible and appealing. The band’s music stands out as a combination of tasteful progressive rock, with shades of various influences, ranging from alternative to symphonic hard rock, just to mention a few.
