Austin TX's indie rock foursome, Young Tongue (previously The Baker Family), consists of husband and wife Stu and Liz Baker along with Nathan Ribner, and Darryl Schomberg II. The band has been writing, performing, and recording material since their freshman full length “Death Rattle”, and is currently releasing a series of singles from September 2017 to Summer 2018.
"After our full length came out in 2015, our band had two babies," explains lead vocalist Stu Baker. "Needless to say, that changed a lot for us; but all along we've still been regularly playing shows, writing, and recording new songs together. Eventually we decided to put the songs out one at a time, and release a single once a month starting in September 2017."
"Electric Display is a song that felt like it wrote itself while we were just kind of jamming during a rehearsal. The lyrics came to me while I was hiking on the green belt with my daughter strapped to my chest. Being alone in the woods with my daughter, and thinking about how strange it is to be on the other side of the parent/child relationship now, I had a sort of existential epiphany that I'm at the beginning of the middle of the end of my life. The song sort of circles around that concept, along with the theme of how identity relates to cultural behavior. "
Young Tongue complicates the earthy momentum of their percussion-driven sound with surprising touches — an airy omnichord melody or a jagged guitar solo. Their sound generally ranges from progressive indie rock to psychedelic dance-infused dream pop. It’s this range of lightness of sound and force of rhythm that stirs their audiences to dance. Their lyrics move cohesively, stringing along images to reveal stories. If a new language is born out of a necessity to communicate, Young Tongue captures that same sense of urgency to expose narrative.
A combination of retro aesthetics, enduring lyrics and alt-rock grit.
The best music happens when artists refuse to remain stuck in their own comfort zones and creative boxes. Whenever this happens, they are free to give full range to their vision, and they can really come up with something that’s groundbreaking and personable. This is certainly the case here with Tommy Red and his brand new EP release, “I Wanna Be Exploited.”
Marva Von Theo is an Electropop / Synthwave duo formed in 2016 by the Athens-based singer-songwriter Marva Voulgari and the Vienna-based composer-producer Theo Foinidis.
Their Debut Album “Dream within a Dream” was released early in 2018. The 12 songs on their Album, lean towards an electronic sound that incorporates a variety of influences ranging from the music of the 80’s until today. Darkwave sounds, Jazz harmonies, Rock and Dance drum beats resonate together and mature into something darkly romantic.
