Orlon Gunner is an inspired and intriguing DIY solo effort that slyly borrows from music of the past to create something full of character and easy on the ears. The project's newly released three-song eponymous EP is, at times, reminiscent of The Zombies and other acts of the '60s & '70s, while still remaining fresh and original. Since its October 2017 release, Orlon Gunner is beginning to see regular airplay on campus and alternate radio stations across Canada.
Orlon Gunner is the pet project of Canadian multimedia artist, Robert Bernard Armieri, who has seen success as a short filmmaker, entrepreneur, and co-founder of Housecreep, a controversial true crime website.
While attending the University of Western Ontario between 2006-2009, Armieri focused on creating short films and recording his own music rather than on his studies. It was not in vain, however, with several of his films being picked up by Ouat Media for international distribution after a few successful short film competitions.
Using the competition prize money, Armieri started his own multimedia production company, Northern Recorders, and began working as a multimedia developer to fund his creative projects. Among these projects were the mobile game Chewy Train, and the niche true crime/real estate website Housecreep, which has received a great deal of media attention since its creation in 2013.
Armieri’s latest project is a three song EP under the alias Orlon Gunner, which was released on October 2nd, 2017.
"Writing and recording "Closer" was like a quick pick-me-up," Robert explains. "After spending weeks rewriting, remixing, and overworking the first track I finished for the EP, Carousel, I wasn’t feeling great about the results I was getting and was pretty disappointed in myself. "Closer" came together a lot easier. The song has a frenetic pace with lots of percussion and minimal lyrics. It was an attempt at quieting my negative self-talk and a reminder to keep plugging away."
indie, psych, rock
A combination of retro aesthetics, enduring lyrics and alt-rock grit.
The best music happens when artists refuse to remain stuck in their own comfort zones and creative boxes. Whenever this happens, they are free to give full range to their vision, and they can really come up with something that’s groundbreaking and personable. This is certainly the case here with Tommy Red and his brand new EP release, “I Wanna Be Exploited.”
Marva Von Theo is an Electropop / Synthwave duo formed in 2016 by the Athens-based singer-songwriter Marva Voulgari and the Vienna-based composer-producer Theo Foinidis.
Their Debut Album “Dream within a Dream” was released early in 2018. The 12 songs on their Album, lean towards an electronic sound that incorporates a variety of influences ranging from the music of the 80’s until today. Darkwave sounds, Jazz harmonies, Rock and Dance drum beats resonate together and mature into something darkly romantic.
