Debut album - Ordeal & Plight by Ordeal & Plight

New

Ordeal & Plight are an instrumental Post-Rock/Doom Metal band from Germany.
Formed in 2012 by K and black metal band Black Horizonz guitarist H, Ordeal & Plight began as a project experimenting on combining post-rock with black metal and doom metal elements. Joined by bass guitarist R, the band began recording their first demos in the Dunkelkammer Studios in Kamen, Germany, leading up to their self-titled debut record. Mixed and recorded at Fragment, Dortmund, in 2016, the album Ordeal & Plight was released on Chaosthrone Records on January 13th, 2017.

Three-piece post-rock/doom metal band Ordeal & Plight released their self-titled debut album on Chaosthrone Records. Almost 5 years in the making, the album explores contrasts: uplifting post-rock anthems ("Your Patience") arise from devastating swamps of doom ("Nine Years"), crisp melodies soar over heavy, gloomy chords. Coming from different musical backgrounds such as jazz, folk, or black metal, Ordeal & Plight's members experiment with each of them to create a sound that is both light and clean, heavy and dark, and takes listeners to muse over the boundaries and overlaps of memory and premonition ("Mnemosyne"/"Lethe"), and life and death.

Dreams of Kyoto by Mixtaped Monk

Mixtaped Monk is a DIY music project by Indian multi-instrumentalist and music producer, Arka Sengupta, who believes in making music that soothes the mind. This project was started as an outlet for his creative expressions.

Under the moniker of Mixtaped Monk, he not only expresses himself as a music producer but also as a writer and a visual artist. Being socially awkward since childhood, he always loved solitude. And, in his solitude, the thing which he liked to do the most is discovering music. Be it the cassette of Pink Floyd's “Dark Side of The Moon,” which he discovered, in his uncle's old room, during his early teenage, or the first mixtape that he made for a girl when he was a little bit older, music has always been his sole companion. Gradually, he picked up playing the keyboard and the guitar, started experimenting with music and realized that there is a whole world of possibilities for him to explore.

To date, Mixtaped Monk has released 4 full length albums, an EP and 5 singles.

Right from the time he was in school, Arka had an immense fascination for anime. And that led to his (almost) obsession with Japanese culture. It all started with Naruto and Naruto Shippuuden. But when he watched Rurouni Kenshin for the first time, he was fascinated with the way the city of Kyoto was portrayed in the anime. And so he began researching the city, its current form and the long history associated with it. Since then, from time to time, he's had these dreams about the city. Sometimes they were associated with historical events and sometimes with the modern era. But in all, they were always so vivid that he could literally feel the profound beauty and heritage of Kyoto within him.

Through DREAMS OF KYOTO, Arka has tried to provide a soundtrack for the nature of the dreams he has of Kyoto.

Dani Lee Pearce is a transgender music producer from Portland, Oregon who has been musically active since 2011 and actively releasing since 2015. She currently handles all production of albums herself including visual design with only rare collaborator input.

Her songs' subject matter frequently concerns life within trans-ness and mental illness, frequently includes fantasy imagery and sounds, and stylistically varies between releases, approaching the composition of each album as if they were films. Her first three albums, 'Dani Lee Pearce', 'Depayse' and 'Kelvin' were instrumental albums centered around different moods, with the first album being based around the concept of recovery, illustrated by its deliberately non-linear progression from chaotic to serene.

'Notes of a Nervous Little Pixie', released in early 2016, was her first album with vocals and was recorded in harsh conditions with limited equipment and space, and is largely a document of emotional abuse received by and the mental illnesses of the artist around that time. Her newest album, 'Petrichor', released last November, adds poetry as a new influence and compositional tool to her music, reflected in the album's story and writing.

A concept album about Star-Gods, magical beings and the depiction of different forms of survival in the journeys of various characters, in addition to a variety of interpretations of this thing called Purity, both false and true, and how Disarray entangles with it.

Singularity by Man Against Mankind

2017-01-26 04:59:24 UTC

New

Man Against Mankind is a "one-man-band" project from Hungary. The project started the in 2015, November, as an experiment to see if it could create anything that could be called atmospheric, or ambient, or post-rock. The project has been running for more than a year now, and has released 6 albums so far.

'Have you ever felt like leaving behind this planet, travelling throught the solar system and not stopping until you have reached interstellar space? I have. This happened. Space has always inspired me, the idea of exploring the unkown is both exciting and petrifying. Also, space is so vast, that there is no such word which could describe it's emptyness. Therefore, if someone wants to get away from the problems and troubles of their everyday lives, space is an ideal place. 'Singularity' is kind of a concept album, where we leave behind our home planet and aim for the edge of the solar system."

Track List

  • From Singularity - 00:54
  • Departure - 06:55
  • The Point Of View Of An Astronaut - 03:33
  • Around Me There's Only Darkness - 02:59
  • I Am Voyager - 05:41
  • Interstellar - 07:25
  • To Singularity - 00:44

Review for 52 by Orellana

Orellana is a neo-classical/post-rock collective hailing from Bristol, UK. Their new album “52”, released in late December, brought in the new year with it’s explosive and intricate sound. The project’s music transcends genre definitions in order to focus on a broad, diverse concept that is more emotional than tangible. This particular release is full of rich and diverse arrangements, but it is also a powerful exercise in minimalism, one that showcases the strength of very few notes placed in the right spots. The simplicity of the arrangement is actually one of the strongest aspects of this entire release: there’s a palpable stillness created by the long, drone notes in the background, which almost makes you feel like the world is happening in slow motion. When the chords and notes change, it feels quite monumental due to the beautiful contrast between the stillness of the background textures and the expressive sound of the guitar-based melodies.
