Belau live

Belau is one of the most promising chillwave newcomers: their first song, Island of Promise was chosen to the top hits of 2015 at Deezer Hungary and appears in HBO’s series, Aranyélet. In one and half years they had more than 100 live performances in 14 countries. The debut Belau full-length album, The Odyssey was released in 2016 featuring several outstanding guest vocalists, and won the Hungarian Grammy in best electronic music album category. After their long EU tour they are ready to release their brand new video.

“Take You to The Sea” – claims about their compositions. Belau originally started as a solo project, later it become a duo. In the world of Belau a constant buoyant mood and a sense of optimism meets innovative electronic beats. This genre of elegant and clean beats capturing the feeling of summer has been dubbed as sundowntempo.

Their first song, Island of Promise was chosen to the top hits of 2015 at Deezer Hungary, and the biggest Hungarian new portals. Now it counts nearly 500.000 views, appears in HBO’s series, Aranyélet, and also featuring in international commercials for Pepsi (33 countries). In one and half years they had more than 100 live performances in 14 countries across Europe, they played the biggest festivals of the region, like Eurosonic, Sziget, Reeperbahn, Untold.

The debut full-length album of the band, The Odyssey has been finally released in November 2016 with 12 new songs featuring several guest vocalists from the Hungarian underground scene. One of them is the greatest honor so far: winning the Hungarian Grammy’s, the Fonogram-awards for the best electronic album of the year. One of their song is also airplayed by BBC Radio 1. The long term goals of the ever-growing project include the creation of multiple concept LPs, each capturing the vibe of a different geographical region around the world.

The new Belau song, called Redefine brings back to us the summer vibes with a bit of Caribbean mood. One of the most interesting chillwave newcomers second album hopefully will be released around 2018 October, until they will continue their European tour.

New track - Callisto by Selles

2016-12-20 03:13:25 UTC

New

Following the dark, yet melodious nostalgia of Sunwarper, and the hazy summer warmth of Life Aquatic, Selles returns with the otherworldly single, Callisto. A song built from real instruments being spliced and warped to create an immediately recognizable, yet seemingly foreign melody. Selles creates an auditory world filled with ghostly synths, warped guitars, booming bass, and field recordings teeming underneath an electronic surface. Taking influence from artists as varied as Boards of Canada, Cloudkicker, Tycho and Explosions in the Sky, Selles combines the ambience and groove of IDM and Chillwave with the instrumentation and aesthetic of Post-Rock. This was part of a planned early 2017 EP; however, as writing progressed it became apparent that this would be the start of the next Selles full length album.

Michael Jakucs began creating music as Selles in 2013 to explore the electronic experimentation of chopping instruments into samplers. Drawing equal influence from artists as varied as Boards of Canada, Explosions in the Sky, Tycho and Eluvium, Jakucs’ music is filled with carefully crafted chords, organic sounds and instruments manipulated beyond recognition with a computer. Using the tumult of the world as influence, Jakucs creates a memory filled soundscape of fractured melodies with meaning buried under the audible surface.

Soundscape Exploration: Binondo by Escuri

Escuri has been actively producing and performing experimental music in the Philippines.  He released several EP which include Parallel Worlds (2013), a compilation of avant-garde analog sound works which took inspiration from the literary works of Haruki Murakami and Kobo Abe; Coloring Book (2015), a collection of purely digital audio works; and ORBIT21 (2016), a collaborative sound work with music producers from California, UK, Texas, Netherlands and London.

His musical works has been featured in local radio stations and publication. His current musical project involves performing electronic music in various settings (public, semi-public and private spaces) in an attempt to explore how these physical spaces contribute to and/or affect sound and performance. In addition, the project also explores how synthetic sounds interact with natural sounds and how this interaction affect the binaural perception of the listeners . Other on-going projects include field recordings with visual artists .

He is part of Pixel Collective, a local group of emerging digital/electronic/analog/lo-fi musicians; and Buwan Buwan Collective, a record label dedicated to unearthing substantial electronic art forms.

A collaboration Purveyr and adidas Originals.

Around August 2016, they roamed around the streets of Escolta, Philippines and did a soundwalk.

This opportunity paved way in exploring field recordings. In the process, they recorded ambient sounds and collaborated with the locals by asking them to do rhythmic beats using familiar objects (coins, hammer, basketball and even coffee machine!)

Like photography, music also has the power to capture a moment, make it eternal and deliver euphoria and nostalgic memories.

Review for 52 by Orellana

Orellana is a neo-classical/post-rock collective hailing from Bristol, UK. Their new album “52”, released in late December, brought in the new year with it’s explosive and intricate sound. The project’s music transcends genre definitions in order to focus on a broad, diverse concept that is more emotional than tangible. This particular release is full of rich and diverse arrangements, but it is also a powerful exercise in minimalism, one that showcases the strength of very few notes placed in the right spots. The simplicity of the arrangement is actually one of the strongest aspects of this entire release: there’s a palpable stillness created by the long, drone notes in the background, which almost makes you feel like the world is happening in slow motion. When the chords and notes change, it feels quite monumental due to the beautiful contrast between the stillness of the background textures and the expressive sound of the guitar-based melodies.
