The SirensSound presents the new single "Baby" by Basement Revolver.
"Baby is about feeling sad and down even though you are generally happy about everything and everyone in your life. It’s about feeling confused about what I want in life, and how that affects other people. It is about crying a lot and feeling like I was burdening my partner with those questions. It is also about my tendency to retreat when things get too overwhelming, to spend all day and night in my bed and watching netflix and eating doritos. "Baby" was written at a point in my relationship where I was so happy with my partner and with the things in my life at that point – but I felt an overall dissatisfaction and sadness that I couldn’t explain. I’d be having a really nice date, and I would start crying, and I didn’t know why. Sadness was just there, sitting with me in uncertainty. So I dealt with it by trying to sleep it off, or hanging out on my own. I felt like this depressive state was affecting those around me in a negative way and I felt guilty about that.
The chorus on this one pretty much states clearly how I was feeling – “Baby I’m so sorry, I’m trying my best to figure this out, I swear that I’m so happy, this crying won’t fix what’s already broken and dead, just give me some time”.
"Baby" will be part of the new album ‘Heavy Eyes’ out this summer via Sonic Unyon (North America) & fear of missing out (UK).
Nick performs and records with Saxsyndrum, Best Fern, and Rêves Sonores. As to why he’s waited until now to produce work under his own name, Schofield says, “I’ve always worked on music under a moniker or as a band, so this is somewhat exposed solo territory for me. Having grown up going to galleries and exhibitions with my mom, I always held high regard for artists who go by their own name. Personally, it implies acceptance. This music is ‘me’, it just felt like the most natural nomenclature.”
Nick Schofield continues the ambient tradition pioneered by Hiroshi Yoshimura and Brian Eno, allowing for the soothing effects to wash over us all.
Schofield is a Montreal-based musician, producer and radio host with a BFA in Electroacoustic Studies from Concordia University.
Comprised of minimal instrumentation and field-recordings, Water Sine is a soundtrack for sleep; an antidote to insomnia. Softness and simplicity. A sound that beckons for tranquility and release.
Water Sine started in June 2016 as a way to create music more fluidly, using somewhat specific production parameters that guided the compositions. Schofield used just one synthesizer (Yamaha PSS-270), one effect pedal (BOSS RV-3) and an Edirol field-recorder.
“Even though I tracked with Ableton Live, I treated the DAW like a 4-track recorder, so I had limited channels and editing options. The music itself is very much my way of coping with insomnia and tapping my nocturnal creative energy.”
"CALLS is a loop based post rock trio with some math rock influences. We are old friends who came together to do as much as we can with what little we had, and to chase a passion for connecting with people through live music. The band was formed by Josh McKinley while he was in college writing loop based post-rock music primarily due to a lack of people to write post-rock with otherwise. This developed into a method of songwriting and with the recruitment of life-long friend Mike Messina on drums CALLS was born. With the imminent release of the band's first album "Refloating" on October 15th, 2016, Joe Conserva was recruited on bass duties. After a few live shows, it was evident he was a natural fit for the group and is now a full-time member. Calls re-entered the studio in May of this year to track our new single "Clouds in the Caves" and now are going on their first US tour starting on May 24th and playing with bands like Glacier, Pray For Sound, Wess Meets West, Ourselves Alone and more. What began as a passion project has grown in to our humble movement to strengthen the post rock / math rock scene on long island and make Long Island a growing hot spot for the scene!
Clouds in the Caves is a single that captures the more moody side of our band while keeping with our theme of utilizing looping in a progressive manner. The music video released on May 1st fully captures the atmosphere of hanging at one of our local shows and vibing out with a bunch of musicians and artists who've come together to support each other. REMISE EN BOUCHE, which translates as palate cleanser, or in the mouth, is both an act of refreshment for the ears, and a commentary on the misogyny women experience in the creative industries.
The album combines field recordings, classical rifts, untrained voice, violin, and transformed feedback noise. the layers co exist, tangle, overlap, to form a textured sonic world, full of movement, with sounds appearing and receding into dark voids. Everything you hear in this album was generated acoustically either with instrumentation or concrete sound sources.

grej is the solo project and performing pseudonym of Greg Harrison, a Canadian-based percussionist from Fredericton, NB. He has produced works for Toronto Dance Theatre, Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre, Form CDT, Morris Palter, and Division 85 Films. His work and performances have been described as “rich & curiously cool landscapes”, “sensitive, sophisticated & powerful” and “transfixing”. Specializing in classical minimalism and electronic music, grej seeks to merge these worlds to create truly unique sounds, rhythms, and textures.
Chasing the Path was commissioned by Hanna Kiel (Human Body Expression) and was presented under the same title by DanceWorks in March 2018 in Toronto, Ont. The piece investigates the beauty and pain of memory.
Grej explores the relationship between classical/contemporary music with electronic sound design. Starting from a pure acoustic world featuring piano, cello, percussion and organ, the thematic material journeys through various stages of distortion and manipulation until reaching a cryptic synth-driven climax.
A combination of retro aesthetics, enduring lyrics and alt-rock grit.
The best music happens when artists refuse to remain stuck in their own comfort zones and creative boxes. Whenever this happens, they are free to give full range to their vision, and they can really come up with something that’s groundbreaking and personable. This is certainly the case here with Tommy Red and his brand new EP release, “I Wanna Be Exploited.”
