Split EP by Debutante

2017-06-13 05:19:41 UTC

Debutante is the Zurich-based solo project of Chris Zimmermann, in which they blend droney shoegaze music with pop sensibilites and chiptune synths, ending up sounding like an odd blend of Boris, The Microphones and Giles Corey. With deeply personal lyrics about themes such as depression or growing up in a physically abusive household, the music varies between slow, mellow soundscapes and fuzzy, bass-heavy gut punches that capture their energetic live shows perfectly.

A split EP by Debutante with Leeds-based noise artist Feral about gender dysphoria. The Debutante side is a lengthier slowcore track with lots of glitchy synths that gets quite heavy towards the end.

  • Feral - Cry Yourself To The Hanging - 03:31
  • No Mirrors - 12:20

New album Coping Strategies by CARES

2017-05-12 03:55:44 UTC

The full EP, 'Coping Strategies' just released on & Options (Cassette and digital). It explores erosion of meaning and collective anxiety, and people’s attempts at dealing with those things. People seem to be finding the world an increasingly overwhelming and absurd place. Noticing how they deal with that has been finding its way into my CARES' work.

"I only knew what this EP was about after it was finished. I approach writing with an idea about a sound or a vague feeling or imagery but leave the concepts open ended to try to write in a more abstract and subconscious way. I’m really excited to release something on & Options because I think they're doing something really interesting with the catalog they’re building. The label is Toronto based but a lot of the music they are putting out is from all over the world. There is a really bold mix of ideas from their roster so far and I'm happy to add to it."

Track List

  • Vendor Day - 05:29

  • State Trooper Award Ceremony - 05:31
  • Chair Throwing Meditation 3 - 04:35

Unnamed %281%29

Blood Is Sweeter Than Honey is London-based artist Danny Currie's 3rd release of 2017.

Field recordings of his coastal hometown are merged with spectral guitars and washes of electronic noise to create a droning ambient panorama which seems to crest and recede like the Irish Sea heard in those same field recordings.

Released on his own Anschauen Records, Blood Is Sweeter Than Honey follows January's 'Verschollene EP' (Spheredelic Records), and 'Covers 2017' - a Soundcloud release of cover tracks.

Genre : electronic, ambient, drone, guitar, noise, psychedelic

New album Divinatio Exitium by Reid Karris

2017-04-06 04:15:02 UTC

Reid Karris is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, sound enthusiast and improviser hailing from Chicago, Illinois trying very hard to get all the music stuck in his head out for all the world to hear. After spending years as an odd guitarist trying to fit in with the world of rock music, Reid shifted his focus towards improvisation, noise, drone and avant-garde. His primary instruments for doing so are prepared guitar and drum kit sent through electronics. With prepared guitars, he performs solo as well as in various groups including Set Self on Fire, HKM Guitar Trio, The Chicago Scratch Orchesta and Coffin Screws; the later consisting of himself on prepared guitars along with a revolving rhythm section usually consisting of a drummer and bassist who do not regularly play together. He also plays drums in the experimental duo Step Slow and works with an array of found metal percussion. In studio settings, he either records albums of improvised music employing himself on prepared guitars or conceptual abstract compositions. He has released music on Pan Y Rosas Discos, Lungbasket Recordings and Lurker Bias.

New album Lathe by Galaxxu

2017-03-24 19:32:35 UTC

Galaxxu's music can best be summed up with this Sonny Sharrock quote: "I’ve been trying to find a way for the terror and the beauty to live together in one song. I know it’s possible." Galaxxu draws inspiration from Chicago's incredible free jazz and indie scenes of the past and present, European free improv, and electronic noise to create spontaneous compositions that range from quiet, delicate serenity to an abrasive, pedal-to-the-floor assault.

Galaxxu is currently finishing mixing for several upcoming releases and planning a couple of tours in summer and fall of 2017.

Chicago’s Galaxxu is excited to announce a super-limited edition seven inch lathe cut, featuring artwork by Alex Dycylyxyvyi. The two sides reflect the terror and the beauty the quartet tries to capture in their free improvisations. Side A starts off innocently enough, until devolving into a mess of disjointed interplay between a sax crying out, and a guitar that is seemingly being torn apart at the atomic level. Suddenly, the drums offer a rallying cry and Galaxxu breaks out into a wall of furious noise. Side B offers a glimpse into the more subdued side of Galaxxu. At times even soulful, albeit still operating within the confines of their chaotic take on free improvisation, it ends things in a dreamy sequence as if the Galaxxians are surveying the damage they wrought on Side A.

Track List

  • A Tisket, A Trifle, A Flittering Flutter [Stereo Edit] - 05:22 info
  • Horse Battery Staple [Stereo Edit] - 05:00

New album Land of Evergone by Ali Murray

Ali Murray is an ethereal folk songwriter/musician from the cold isle of Lewis in the north of Scotland. He writes dark atmospheric folk music with lush sweeping dreamy soundscapes and Celtic-twinged instrumentation. His new album LAND OF EVERGONE strikes a balance that is intimate and soaring, peaceful and haunting, sad and quietly joyful, delicately reverberating with Murray's dreamy voice and guitar playing.

Review for 52 by Orellana

Orellana is a neo-classical/post-rock collective hailing from Bristol, UK. Their new album “52”, released in late December, brought in the new year with it’s explosive and intricate sound. The project’s music transcends genre definitions in order to focus on a broad, diverse concept that is more emotional than tangible. This particular release is full of rich and diverse arrangements, but it is also a powerful exercise in minimalism, one that showcases the strength of very few notes placed in the right spots. The simplicity of the arrangement is actually one of the strongest aspects of this entire release: there’s a palpable stillness created by the long, drone notes in the background, which almost makes you feel like the world is happening in slow motion. When the chords and notes change, it feels quite monumental due to the beautiful contrast between the stillness of the background textures and the expressive sound of the guitar-based melodies.
