Reid Karris is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, sound enthusiast and improviser hailing from Chicago, Illinois trying very hard to get all the music stuck in his head out for all the world to hear. After spending years as an odd guitarist trying to fit in with the world of rock music, Reid shifted his focus towards improvisation, noise, drone and avant-garde. His primary instruments for doing so are prepared guitar and drum kit sent through electronics. With prepared guitars, he performs solo as well as in various groups including Set Self on Fire, HKM Guitar Trio, The Chicago Scratch Orchesta and Coffin Screws; the later consisting of himself on prepared guitars along with a revolving rhythm section usually consisting of a drummer and bassist who do not regularly play together. He also plays drums in the experimental duo Step Slow and works with an array of found metal percussion. In studio settings, he either records albums of improvised music employing himself on prepared guitars or conceptual abstract compositions. He has released music on Pan Y Rosas Discos, Lungbasket Recordings and Lurker Bias.

Galaxxu's music can best be summed up with this Sonny Sharrock quote: "I’ve been trying to find a way for the terror and the beauty to live together in one song. I know it’s possible." Galaxxu draws inspiration from Chicago's incredible free jazz and indie scenes of the past and present, European free improv, and electronic noise to create spontaneous compositions that range from quiet, delicate serenity to an abrasive, pedal-to-the-floor assault.
Galaxxu is currently finishing mixing for several upcoming releases and planning a couple of tours in summer and fall of 2017.
Chicago’s Galaxxu is excited to announce a super-limited edition seven inch lathe cut, featuring artwork by Alex Dycylyxyvyi. The two sides reflect the terror and the beauty the quartet tries to capture in their free improvisations. Side A starts off innocently enough, until devolving into a mess of disjointed interplay between a sax crying out, and a guitar that is seemingly being torn apart at the atomic level. Suddenly, the drums offer a rallying cry and Galaxxu breaks out into a wall of furious noise. Side B offers a glimpse into the more subdued side of Galaxxu. At times even soulful, albeit still operating within the confines of their chaotic take on free improvisation, it ends things in a dreamy sequence as if the Galaxxians are surveying the damage they wrought on Side A.

Philadelphia noiserockers Cemetery Flowers released their debut EP this week through Glowing Dagger, the Oakland tape label run by Megan Biscieglia of Bad Braids and Dustin Khebzou. Made up of multi-instrumentalists Andrew North and Pat Friel, the record is an intense tapestry of roaring guitars and cold, nervy electronic beats, with North and Friel howling nihilistically. The record is a gripping listen, all the way through the 15-minute closer “vi,” which hammers away in brutal riff repetition but is pretty impossible to turn away from.

"The idea of "Whirl Music" was to capture a blur of past moments in one's emotional life," Jasper X, the New Jersey-based project frontman, explains. "Our memories are often blurred snapshots of multiple moments that we think of from time to time, like being a whirl of thoughts. The initial chord progression is the foundation of the song along with the driving kick drum on the downbeat. The idea was to create modest builds and colors around that foundation and what came out was a positive sonic vibe that crescendos into the instrumental outro." The track is off his new full-length, 'Aegean Lanes'
Singer/songwriter Jasper X has been writing and recording records for the past 15 years. He began his music career playing small clubs in NYC, bouncing around from one project to the next. It would take a while for Jasper to finally organize his musical thoughts and put a dedicated effort into a studio recording. After writing indie-rock oriented pieces, such as the 2011 release 'Cameras and Paragons', he chose to let his current influences at the time (Wilco, Elliot Smith, Ryan Adams) take him in a different direction. His latest release, 'Aegean Lanes', enters the alt-folk/singer-songwriter genre with personal, acoustic-based songs having unique chord progressions (Only Patterns, Fortunes) and pulsating rhythms (Whirl Music, Alpha Rays).

Party like a Fireman" is a nonstop sonic journey of madness spanning just over an hour, with an overall beat driven, industrial, and darker ambient tone than some of our previous releases. That's not to say it's all doom and gloom. There are serval upbeat and comical moments, but they all eventually veer into an uncomfortable waking dream state.
