Serial Experiments 1 is the first collection of songs released from an extensive two year binge of spending time recording tracks/ideas between 2015/2017. (With the exception of "orchids" which was originally recorded in 2010 but unreleased). These songs were never meant to make a cohesive album, this one is the 1st of 4 series.
George D. Stănciulescu is a Romanian electronic and experimental music producer, composer / sound designer and PhD in Philosophy of Digital Music & New Media. In 2005, he founded the neo-classical ambient / avant-garde ensemble Ad Ombra, which consequently released a CD trilogy: Rites of Genesis (2008), Magna Charta Illusorum (2009) and Almost Eternity (2011). In 2009, Stănciulescu started to focus on the more electro-dance oriented sonic dimensions by creating the eclectic electronica music project LeVant, which had its debut CD, Beyond the Masque of Eden (2010). The second album, Knock, Knock, Ginger (digital) came in 2014, revealing an eclectic paradigm that comprises indie electro, trip-hop, contemporary music and art-pop altogether. Since its inception, LeVant has performed acclaimed multimedia shows both as a band and as a DJ at various national & international festivals and venues, with a plethora of featured vocalists and guest artists, ranging from theater and film, choreography, visual arts and so on. LeVant’s releases have been featured in the international underground press, in a number of online publications, radio shows and samplers worldwide.
According to LeVant, “UnFinetude” is a rather special work and probably the most radical and genre-bending amongst the ones he made so far so far. As a sort of “raison d’etre” for its genesis, came from the subconscious challenge he got from various persons asking him what is that? So he thought of creating a digimodern work and this slowly shaped in, thanks to some hours of expanding fantasy, unrelenting encounters with the realm of Illusion and a handful of plugins."
Dani Lee Pearce is a transgender music producer from Portland, Oregon who has been musically active since 2011 and actively releasing since 2015. She currently handles all production of albums herself including visual design with only rare collaborator input.
Her songs' subject matter frequently concerns life within trans-ness and mental illness, frequently includes fantasy imagery and sounds, and stylistically varies between releases, approaching the composition of each album as if they were films. Her first three albums, 'Dani Lee Pearce', 'Depayse' and 'Kelvin' were instrumental albums centered around different moods, with the first album being based around the concept of recovery, illustrated by its deliberately non-linear progression from chaotic to serene.
'Notes of a Nervous Little Pixie', released in early 2016, was her first album with vocals and was recorded in harsh conditions with limited equipment and space, and is largely a document of emotional abuse received by and the mental illnesses of the artist around that time. Her newest album, 'Petrichor', released last November, adds poetry as a new influence and compositional tool to her music, reflected in the album's story and writing.
A concept album about Star-Gods, magical beings and the depiction of different forms of survival in the journeys of various characters, in addition to a variety of interpretations of this thing called Purity, both false and true, and how Disarray entangles with it.

Liam Kirby’s “Little of this Life” is warm like a blanket. The tenderness radiates through all aspects of the album, from the intimate guitar work to the earnest vocals. A poetic quality predominates over the pieces as they unfold with a sense of purpose. Cyclical rhythms give the songs a naturalistic air to them. By not overdoing the arrangements the way that the songs feels oftentimes is akin to being alone in a room with a dear friend. At times the songs feel reminiscent of Nick Drake’s “Pink Moon” phase.
The sweetness of “Romanticized” sets the tone for what follows. Liam Kirby’s unique comforting voice guides the song forward, singing with a familiarity. Most analogous to Nick Drake’s work is the loose work of “Deary” whose energy is absolutely infectious. With an autumnal air to it is the reflective work of “Never” whose deliberate pace feels perfect. Opting for a sense of wonder is the childlike retelling of “Dream Log”. Featuring a playful keyboard is the joyous experience of “A Secret Life” whose melody lingers in the mind long the song is over. Keyboards continue though in a more subdued way in the deep registers of “If you see wolves”. Hypnotic in nature is the album highlight, the regal arrangement of “Stork”. Much more low-key is the highly articulate work of “Lightly”. Bringing the album to a close is the mellowness of “Lazy Eye”.
Orellana is a neo-classical/post-rock collective hailing from Bristol, UK. Their new album “52”, released in late December, brought in the new year with it’s explosive and intricate sound. The project’s music transcends genre definitions in order to focus on a broad, diverse concept that is more emotional than tangible. This particular release is full of rich and diverse arrangements, but it is also a powerful exercise in minimalism, one that showcases the strength of very few notes placed in the right spots. The simplicity of the arrangement is actually one of the strongest aspects of this entire release: there’s a palpable stillness created by the long, drone notes in the background, which almost makes you feel like the world is happening in slow motion. When the chords and notes change, it feels quite monumental due to the beautiful contrast between the stillness of the background textures and the expressive sound of the guitar-based melodies.
Davenport Rex is a music project based in Detroit, Michigan. Their sound is diverse and challenging, yet accessible and appealing. The band’s music stands out as a combination of tasteful progressive rock, with shades of various influences, ranging from alternative to symphonic hard rock, just to mention a few.
