Kilmanjaro is a unique and emerging 4-piece from Toronto, performing the densely layered and immersive electronic compositions of Kaan Gunesberk and Ian Culley. Two drummers Luke Graves and Ryan Macdonald weave through interlocking parts to create a bed of driving rhythm that sits underneath lush synth textures and dream-like vocal melodies. Culley and Gunesberk are both active songwriters and musicians outside of Kilmanjaro, with Culley contributing songwriting efforts to Daniel Caesar’s “Get You” and Gunesberk adapting his signature vocals on Drake’s “Right Hand.”
In January 2017, they released their debut LP A Place Unknown To All You Ever Say under NYK records. The album explores a spectrum of lofty and grimy textures amongst Gunesberk’s ethereal vocals, invoking feelings of a nocturnal daydream as he reflects on the different manifestation of his personality and relationships around him.
The band's thoughts on the song:
“This song is the climax point in the album. All the feelings conveyed throughout the album come to this point of realization. There’s a lot of tension in the first half of the song. But it reaches a point where you’re freed from that prison of emotion that’s been holding you for the whole album. There’s this sense of awakening.”

The video for AIDA 's single “Let’s Ride” is now out. "The video was able to come to life because of the amazing crew from La maison baldman. When I first heard the instrumental for this song, I immediately pictured myself riding down the beach. I saw palm trees, funky neon colors and me in a red corvette. This record which is a part of my very first EP entitled “My Retrospective”, is nothing else but a party in musical form. "
After a decade of hiding in the shadows as a sideman and session musician, Erik Kramer is stepping out with a powerful first collection of songs entitled 'Missed the Boat'. The 27-year old Brooklyn resident's bass playing has been featured on records by Endangered Speeches, Sun Cut Flat, Sonnymoon, The Blind Woods, and more. At a time when information travels so fast, 'Missed the Boat' allows the listener to slow down and take a 33-minute journey through this collection of six potent songs, performed by some of NYC's elite musicians. The music is hard to define as it draws on influences from all over the musical and lyrical spectrum, but has a little something for everyone. The album is due out in late May of 2017. Kramer is also currently the bass player for The Undercover Dream Lovers. He also recorded on a track and video for Sonnymoon, and was co-collaborator/songwriter for Sun Cut Flat. He has played for numerous other projects in the performing world, on some notable bills and festivals.
Mushroom People are a Germany-based brotherly duo that crafts engaging and colorful pop music. The two brothers, Dean and Dustin Bremerich, formerly played in rock bands before a fascination with electronic music arose in recent years. They formed Mushroom People this past November with that emerging influence in mind. “Time Lapse” is the first single from their eponymous new album, released on 3/17 -
With an infectious stuttering vocal sample, culled from a sample of Thrice’s “Artist in the Ambulance”, the hook on "Time Lapse" emerges seamlessly. Effervescent twinkles just prior to the two-minute mark help assemble a stellar bridge, leading back into the vocal sample-laden hook, which touts dance-laden appeal and an electro-pop shimmer. The vocals during the verses pack a more anthemic rock-based feel, which makes the successful electronic incorporation welcoming and effective.
The vocals are performed by London singer-songwriter Mike Wyatt, though he prefers to stay anonymous, because the different kind of genre might confuse his audience. Another fun fact: the harp in the second verse is played by the grandfather of the Mushroom People brothers. Also, the lyrics are inspired by Mark Twain's 'The Adventures of Tom Sawyer'.
Magdalena Bay is a pop duo comprised of Mica Tenenbaum (songwriting and vocals) and Matthew Lewin (songwriting and production). After being in both a prog-rock band and a relationship together throughout high school, the couple went to college in different states, causing and abrupt end to their musical and romantic relationship. Now, after two years apart, Matthew and Mica are reunited under Magdalena Bay, driven by a passion for creating crafty and electrifying pop music.
"Set Me Off" is a shot of pop adrenaline to the heart, a breakup song that's wistful yet energetic. It pokes fun at the inescapable reminiscing that happens after every breakup.
A combination of retro aesthetics, enduring lyrics and alt-rock grit.
The best music happens when artists refuse to remain stuck in their own comfort zones and creative boxes. Whenever this happens, they are free to give full range to their vision, and they can really come up with something that’s groundbreaking and personable. This is certainly the case here with Tommy Red and his brand new EP release, “I Wanna Be Exploited.”
